5 Warming and Nourishing Alternatives to Coffee

As the weather turns cooler, I find myself moving back towards warm drinks in the morning. I gave up coffee over a year ago to try and help with some adrenal fatigue I was experiencing. If you are interested in learning more, this article gives more details on how coffee could be contributing to adrenal fatigue, but essentially as a “Type A”, overly stressed out individual, coffee wasn’t doing me any favors. So I gave it up over a period of a few weeks, and I’m amazed to say that after a few months, the craving has gone away almost entirely. I did have a few decaf cappuccinos in Italy (because you really can’t say no to the coffee there), but in terms of caffeinated coffee or beverages I haven’t had any in over a year.

Turmeric Bone Broth Latte

I gave up coffee in September of 2016. It was a slow transition and one that I was extremely skeptical of. I knew I was suffering with some adrenal fatigue and blood sugar issues though and coffee doesn’t help those situations. You see, when you use coffee to pick you up, your body has to pour out cortisol in response to the caffeine, which in turn stimulates a blood sugar increase. Too much cortisol leaves to a whole host of problems including fatigue, weight gain, hormonal issues, anxiety, etc. I’m not saying that everyone needs to go give up coffee right now, but if you are dealing with any of the above issues you might want to experiment for a couple of weeks and then try that beloved cup of coffee and see how you feel.
