Happy Monday!

For the second part of our macronutrient series we are going to move on to Protein. Now that I’m sure you have a nice big glass of water to sip on while you read this post, we’ll get right into it!

I feel like most people probably know that protein is important and a fundamental part of a balanced diet (whether you are paleo, gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, etc.), but I think it’s important to learn about why proteins really are so essential.

Hi everyone!

Thank you for taking the time and reading my post about the Whole30. Next time I do it (yes, there will definitely be a next time!) I want to try and take some pictures and write out some meal plans.

Today I want to start talking to you about macronutrients. This will be a four part series and today we will address the first one (and arguably the most important one): Water. Calling something a macronutrient really is just another way of saying that these substances are found in large quantity in our body. The 4 macronutrients are:

My First Whole30

Hi everybody!

About two weeks ago I finished my first Whole30, and I wanted to give a recap of the program and some of the benefits you can experience while it’s still fresh in my mind.

To start, what exactly is the Whole30 and why should you be interested? The Whole30 is a 30 day program that focuses on real, nutrient dense, whole foods and eliminates a lot of the common “problem foods” for most people. It was developed by Melissa and Dallas Hartwig and you can find more information in their book: The Whole30: The 30 Day Guide to Total Health and Food Freedom or on their website:

I believe in Real Food!

It’s as simple and as complicated as that. As a Nutritional Therapist, I advocate for eating real, properly prepared, nutrient dense whole foods in order to achieve and sustain optimal health.

In today’s society, we are inundated with fad diets, packaged foods, incorrect information, and “quick fixes” that move us away from what food is supposed to be and what health is supposed to look like. Food nourishes our body, all the way down to the cellular level. Without proper nutrition, we cannot have optimal health and our foundations will suffer. I believe in bio-individuality which means that there is no “one size fits all” diet, but instead will identify the unique nutritional needs of each person. I believe that nutrition can bring us back to restoring our health and through the nutritional therapy process we can together discover the path to getting there.

Welcome to Wellness Within Holistic Nutrition. My name is Alli Lekstrom, and I am a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and I am so excited to help you on your journey to a healthier life.

A little bit about me:

I love cooking healthy (yet simple) food for my family

I love yoga, hiking and being outdoors in general

I have an adorable German shepherd puppy

I consider grocery shopping a hobby

Wellness Within Holistic Nutrition aims to help you discover your own path to optimal health. I chose this name because I believe that within each of us we have the capability to be healthy, but sometimes we need extra support and guidance to understand how to get there. My goal is to help you remove the barriers that are blocking you from your own true wellness.

I believe in bio-individuality which means that each person’s nutritional requirements are going to be slightly different from one another, and together we will build a customized plan that fits your unique needs.

My own pathway to health wasn’t super simple; it was long and windy and sometimes went backwards instead of forwards before I got to where I am today. This journey has allowed me to understand how many factors are involved in health besides “just eating”. After years of low fat dieting and under-eating, something finally clicked and I realized that I needed a complete dietary and mental overhaul. I threw out the obsessive calorie counting, the excessive exercise, the low fat foods, and instead focused on nourishing my body. My journey wasn’t all smooth sailing from there, but I finally got to a place where I found peace with food and discovered what makes my body (and my mind) happy.

As a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, I want to help you on your unique journey towards finding health and wellness. There will be no fad diets, just real, wholesome, nourishing foods that give your body the support it needs to make you feel great from the inside out.
